Stairlift prices at a glance
A stairlift costs between £2,000 and £9,500 or more, including fitting. A reconditioned straight lift costs the least. A new curved lift costs the most, because its rail is made to fit your stairs.
Prices include fitting and exclude VAT. Most of our customers with a disability qualify for VAT relief and pay no VAT.
Your exact price is confirmed in a written quote after a free home survey.

A new straight stairlift costs £3,500 to £4,900 or more. A reconditioned one costs £2,000 to £3,500 or more. Both include fitting.
Our main straight lift is the Homeglide, made by Access BDD. We offer the latest model new or reconditioned, and earlier Homeglide models reconditioned.
Where your lift sits in the range depends on the length of your stairs and any extras, such as a powered swivel seat, a powered footrest or a folding rail.

Curved stairlift prices
A new curved stairlift costs £6,900 to £9,500 or more. A reconditioned one costs £4,000 to £7,500 or more. Both include fitting.
Curved lifts cost more because the rail is made to fit your staircase. The price depends mostly on the length of the rail, the number of bends, and how it finishes at the top and bottom. The rail can stop at the top step, curve round onto the landing, or wrap round the bottom post for a neater finish.
A reconditioned curved lift normally comes with a brand-new rail, made for your stairs.
If your stairs have a landing in the middle, two straight lifts can sometimes cost less than one curved lift. We’ll tell you if that’s an option at your survey.

A reconditioned stairlift is a second-hand lift that we’ve refurbished for a new home. Reconditioned straight lifts cost £2,000 to £3,500 or more, and curved lifts £4,000 to £7,500 or more, including fitting.
Most come from lifts we’ve bought back from customers. We only take on makes our team is fully trained and qualified to fit.
Before a lift leaves us, we go over every mechanical part, test it and replace anything that needs it. We replace broken or cracked parts, deep clean or change the fabrics, and fit a new rack to the rail. Parts that wear with use are replaced with new ones.
Reconditioned lifts come with our own warranty of one to two years, depending on the make.

Do you pay VAT on a stairlift?
Most people don’t. A stairlift is zero-rated for VAT if you have a long-term illness or disability and the lift is for your own use at home. You sign a short declaration form to claim it.
If you’re 60 or over but don’t qualify for the zero rate, you pay VAT at 5% instead of 20%, as long as we supply and fit the lift.
HMRC explains the rules in VAT Notice 701/7.
Other ways to reduce the cost
If you only need a stairlift for a while, renting may cost less than buying. See our stairlift services.
